John Velvin Charitable Trust

http://www.facebook.com/pages/John-Velvin-Trust/

The Trust has been formed by family and friends of the late John Velvin who suffered from long term chronic kidney disease. It is established to provide support to persons living with chronic kidney disease.

Purpose
To provide financial and personal support to individuals living with chronic kidney failure. Specifically the Trustees will provide support to those who they believe John Velvin would have most wanted to share his experience and advice, providing the individuals with opportunity and reassurance they otherwise would not have access to. Funding support would typically enable recipients to continue with education, have access to appropriate renal advice, maintain contact with family and friends etc.

However the Trust’s intentions are to provide personal support beyond money. This additional support would be in the form of access to many of our networks including professional colleagues, career development, counselling and the like. As the Trust beneficiaries increase in number the Trustees will also seek opportunity for beneficiaries to support each other, both through sharing experiences in sessions where they get together and just being available for each other.

Thus the purposes are not limited to providing money. To read more click on the following link http://www.kidneys.co.nz/ResearchGrants/John-Velvin-Trust/

The Love Letters Foundation: An initiative set up by a Kidney Kids family

“In March 2007 our daughter Frances was diagnosed with neuroblastoma cancer stage 4 and we were told that there was little chance of survival. Out of the blue, a wonderful woman called Sam befriended Frances and gave her something that all the medicine in the world could not – joy and love that made a real difference. Frances spirits were lifted immensely by her friend and by the letters and emails.

Thankfully Frances went into remission in June 2008. She now has treatment related side effects – including kidney damage. We have been fortunate to have the support of Kidney Kids. They do a great job! We also remember the support given by Sam.

The Love Letters Foundation is a New Zealand registered charitable trust formed so that we can help to bring a “Sam” to as many seriously ill and disadvantaged children as possible.

Love Letters works by matching a kind adult to a seriously ill child as a penpal. We also offer the opportunity to have your child feature on our website so that they receive a range of cheerful letters and greetings from visitors to our site. Please visit our website for more details or to apply to register your child or to become a friend of a sick child”.
